The non-profit Solvang Danish Days Foundation announced changes to the 2020 event line-up due to the COVID-19 pandemic and safety concerns.
The 84th Annual Solvang Danish Days weekend honors the 1911 establishment of Solvang by Danish-Americans. It's scheduled for September 18-20, however it will not be celebrated in its traditional form.
Danish Days organizers say the weekend celebration will take place in a hybrid format. The exact details on how the virtual portions as well as intimate, in-person experiences will be released in the coming weeks.
The more traditional Solvang Danish Days weekend events that will NOT occur this year, are: Saturday's and Sunday's Aebleskiver Breakfasts; the weekend's Aebleskiver Eating Contests; the three Parades (Friday Torchlight Parade, Saturday Danish Days Parade, Sunday Children's Parade); the Viking Beer & Wine Garden; the Viking Encampment and Kid's Korner in Solvang Park; the Old World Artisans Marketplace; any of the concerts or dance performances in the Midgaard Pavilion or in Solvang Park; and all of the roving musicians and dance troupes throughout town.
In place of these events, Danish Days organizers are rallying Solvang merchants to create a safer line-up of exclusive events such as baking classes and demos; limited-seating, Danish-inspired dinner parties; and virtual counterparts to some of these experiences.
The Solvang Danish Days Foundation plans to continue with the 2021 edition of the annual Danish Days event, September 17-19, 2021.
