The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department is celebrating National Recreation and Parks Month by hosting a Santa Maria Parks Challenge.

The challenge invites community members to visit at least 12 of the 27 city parks to determine which is their favorite park and why.

Community members can download the parks challenge form at www.cityofsantamaria.org/recreation.

Participants are asked to submit a photo or scan of the completed challenge form via email to rpinfo@cityofsantamaria.org in order to receive a prize. Participation in the challenge is free and open to community members of all ages. The last day to submit the completed challenge form is Friday, July 31.

Santa Maria City leaders want to encourage the community to go outside while social distancing as experts agree there is need for access to parks, trails, and natural areas during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the heightened stress, anxiousness, and social isolation people may experience.

For more information, contact the Recreation and Parks Department at (805) 925-0951, extension 2260, or visit www.cityofsantamaria.org/recreation.
