A local elementary school is getting its students and staff away from the screen to connect with their families through a month-long virtual walk-a-thon.

Cambria Grammar School is hosting the "Cambria Youth Pace 4 Peace" challenge.

Participants log their workouts by miles and minutes.

Principal Jill Southern says since the students are not getting exercise through physical education classes, this challenge is meant to help with that and bring families closer together.

"We're just trying to get everybody outside and keeping their bodies healthy and really celebrating our school community," Southern said. "What we're encouraging our students to do with their families is wear their red school shirts as they're walking through town or biking to promote our school. We're just trying to keep our kids healthy."

Southern says the Pace 4 Peace challenge goes hand-in-hand with their weekly peace rallies, where students and staff meet virtually to focus on morale boosting and good citizenship.
