A group of 16 Cal Poly students went to Sacramento on Monday to be honored for their accomplishments by state lawmakers on the floors of the state Assembly and Senate.

The group was introduced to Senate by Majority Leader Bill Monning (D-Carmel) and to Assemblywoman Megan Dahle (R-Bieber).

The students all come from various disciplines of study; from architecture to engineering to liberal arts.

From constructing a light-weight concrete canoe, helping NASA drill for water on Mars or contributing to the student newspaper, all students were being recognized for their "Learn By Doing" approach to their fields.

Each student, as individual or on a team, has received national acclaim or similar, said a Cal Poly spokesperson.
