UPDATE (4:37 p.m.) - A woman's body was recovered from Mission Creek in Santa Barbara on Monday.

The discovery of the body, at around 9 a.m. in the area of Bath and Cota streets, prompted a large response from law enforcement

“We saw four, five or six cop cars and two or three ambulances, couple of emergency vehicles," said Steven Bergman, a Cota Street resident. "And we saw them trying to take a body out of the out of this Mission Creek bed here.”

Bergman said that while the creek often floods, he’s never heard of anything like this happening before.

Mark Maslan, another Cota Street neighbor, said, “It sounds like they really just don't know anything about it at this point. Like, they don't know where she fell into the water or what happened or who she is.”

Police are not releasing many details at this time but said that the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office Coroner’s Bureau retrieved the body and will determine if an autopsy is needed.

They do not suspect foul play at this time.

The woman's identity is currently unknown.
