Morro Bay police are looking for a driver they say hit a bicyclist Wednesday evening and then took off.

The hit-and-run reportedly happened at about 7 p.m. along Quintana Road.

Police say the 55-year-old bicyclist was heading home from work and riding in the bike line when he was hit by a driver heading northbound.

The rider sustained several injuries and at last check was in critical but stable condition, according to police.

The vehicle possibly involved is described as a 2015 Chevy Colorado that is royal or navy blue and would have damage to the front bumper, police say.

Anyone with information that may help police is asked to call (805) 772-6225. Anonymous tips can be made to San Luis Obispo County Crime Stoppers at (805) 549-STOP.

Workers at Bayside Care Center in Morro Bay say the man hit was an employee there.

They're holding a fundraiser next week to help raise money to help with medical bills and the purchase of a new bike, which is how he gets to and from work.

It's happening Friday, Oct. 25, from noon to 2 p.m. at Bayside Care Center's front patio, 1405 Teresa Dr. in Morro Bay.

Hamburger and hot dog lunch plates will be sold for $5 each.
