Volunteers with the History Center of San Luis Obispo County raised money to continue operations during the pandemic.
The non-profit partnered with Villa Automotive in San Luis Obispo to serve Tri-Tip meals to community members Sunday.
They also offered free tours through the historic Brook Street neighborhood where Japanese Americans built a thriving community before being sent to internment camps during World War II.
"People today are more aware now than ever that they're living through history, so that's why I think it's so important to have an institution like the History Center that preserves the stories of yesterday for the people of tomorrow," the history center executive director Thomas Kessler said.
Kessler said meals sold out quickly.
All the funds raised will go toward storing artifacts, paying staff and maintaining their facilities.
