The defense and prosecution presented their closing arguments Thursday in the trial of a man charged with murdering his mother in Grover Beach last year.
Prosecutors say Levente Laszlo Lazar, 27, killed his mother for financial gain.
On Wednesday, Lazar testified that prior to his mother's death, he had lost a large portion of his inheritance.
Athena Valentiny, 64, was found dead in her home on South 9th Street in October of 2018.
The case was sent to the jury late Thursday afternoon.
If found guilty, he could face life in prison.
