UPDATE (Sept. 7, 2021) - The San Luis Obispo Police Department is investigating an assault that occurred at the Motel 6 South on Monday.
Police have identified the victim as a 30-year-old resident from Fresno who was staying at the motel in the 1600 block of Calle Joaquin.
The assault was reported just before 3 p.m.
Police say the victim sustained major injuries and was too injured to provide investigators with a description of the suspect.
Police are asking anyone who was near the Motel 6 South between 9 a.m and 3 p.m. on Labor Day and who could potentially help identify the suspect to call Det. Womack at (805)594-8038. Anonymous tips can be made by contacting Crime Stoppers at (805) 549-STOP.

UPDATE (9 p.m., Sept. 6) - Police say one victim was hospitalized and in critical condition. No suspects were in custody.

(8:27 p.m., Sept. 6) Police were conducting an assault investigation at a San Luis Obispo motel Monday night.
San Luis Obispo police were on scene at Motel 6 South on the 1600 block of Calle Joaquin at 8:15 p.m.
Limited information was available, but police say an active assault investigation was underway.
They have not released any suspect or victim information.
