Santa Barbara County Animal Services is looking for foster families to take in homeless cats and dogs over the Christmas holiday.

"Santa's Slumber Party" takes place December 21-26.

To participate, visit one of the three animals shelters in Santa Barbara County - Santa Maria, Lompoc or Santa Barbara - fill out a checklist asking what you're looking for in a pet, and you'll be paired with a cat or dog to take home.

Animal Services says the slumber party program is good for the animals because it gives them a vacation from the shelter and it often ends with a pet finding their forever home.

"We get a lot of people in who bring the dog home and just fall in love with them and they do really well, and so more often than not the foster people adopt," said Maddison Pina, Animal Welfare Specialist for Santa Barbara County Animal Services.

Participation in Santa's Slumber Party is free of charge and the shelter provides all necessary supplies.

Those who decide to adopt a pet at the end of the slumber party will receive special discounts.
