SANTA MARIA — Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria held a drive-thru ceremony Wednesday for its 2020 graduates.
Students were able to drive up to curbside, exit their vehicles, walk through faculty members who were holding signs, cheering and dancing and get their diplomas on stage.
Allan Hancock College President Kevin Walthers was waiting on state to hand each graduate their diploma.
"I'm actually really happy that Hancock was able to still give us our ceremony; although it wasn't what we had hoped for, it's still something and I brought my family today and my friends and I'm really happy and really blessed that Hancock puts the student safety first and yet we can still have fun," Heidi Mendiola said, one of the 320 students who participated in the ceremony.
In May, a record-breaking 1,888 students in Hancock's 99th class graduated.
