Six passengers and two crew members were rescued Sunday morning from a boat initially thought to be on fire off the coast of Avila Beach.
Crews from CAL FIRE SLO and Port San Luis Harbor Patrol responded to the 50-foot fishing boat and said all passengers were on shore and safe shortly before 7:30 a.m.
The boat with both crew members still on board was towed to Harford Pier a short time later.
CAL FIRE SLO says it was determined an engine overheated but there was no fire in the engine room as initially reported.
This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
