Organizers of the SLO Marathon & Half announced Friday that the event will go on hiatus for 2020 while they search for a new venue.
The City of San Luis Obispo has hosted the race since 2011.
According to RaceSLO, marathon organizers were faced with "too many hurdles" to continue the race in the city for another year. Those issues included losing the race's long-term venue when the Madonna Inn decided not to renew its contract.
Organizers say the City of San Luis Obispo offered a different venue but was unable to commit long-term.
In a press release, RaceSLO Founder and CEO Samantha Pruitt, said in part, "Without a long-term commitment of venue and support from city and county stakeholders, we simply cannot continue to call San Luis Obispo our home."
RaceSLO is now looking for another community to host the event.
"We're deeply grateful for our loyal sponsors and community members who continue to support us as we look towards the future and open up the invitation to one of the surrounding cities to become our new hometown location starting in 2021," Pruitt said.
