Santa Barbara County made a gross production value of $1.5 billion in 2018 according to the latest county agriculture crop report.

The production value is a 4.9 percent or $74,961,948 decrease from the previous year.

Santa Barbara County said the decline in revenue is because of a decrease in total value for some of the top vegetable crops and wine grapes.

According to the report, strawberries remained the county’s highest crop alongside grapes and nursery crop. It said grapes-started out with a good fruit seed but it slowed later on in the harvest leading to a decrease in harvest acreage. The county said avocados had an increase in harvested acreage, yield per acre and total production and total value.

Santa Barbara County said its agriculture production has exceeded the $1 billion value mark since 2006.
