A Santa Maria man is facing rape charges in Riverside County.
At about 4:25 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the Quality Inn Suites along Indio Springs Parkway to reports of a sexual assault that had occurred there.
Police say the alleged victim, a woman, told them she took a ride to the hotel with people she met at a Coachella nightclub and was then sexually assaulted.
Detectives were brought in to take over the investigation and later arrested Freddy Perez in connection with the assault, according to police, who say the 27-year-old was at the hotel at the time of his arrest.
Perez was booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio on rape charges.
