UPDATE: Ammonia leak under control at Paso Robles winery

UPDATE (8:45 a.m.) – CAL FIRE SLO says the “very small leak” of anhydrous ammonia at Treasury Wine Estates is under control.

The problem was reportedly mitigated by employees at the facility.

CAL FIRE says all employees are safe and resources are being released from the scene.

Anhydrous ammonia is reportedly used as part of the winemaking process.


 

ORIGINAL STORY: Hazmat crews were responding to a reported ammonia leak at a Paso Robles winery Tuesday morning.

CAL FIRE SLO says the call came in at around 7:38 a.m. from Treasury Wine Estates located on the 7000 block of Highway 46 East.

Employees reportedly evacuated and there are no reports of injuries.

At 8:15 a.m., CAL FIRE SLO said the leak had been stopped by employees.

A hazmat unit was requested at the scene as a precaution.
