The San Luis Coastal Education Foundation has created a scholarship fund in honor of beloved local educator, Andrea Blanco.

The money donated to the fund will go toward the Andrea Blanco Legacy Fund, which will provide scholarships and resources to students who have trouble finding access to various opportunities.

The project was created to remember Blanco, who dedicated her life as a teacher at Bishop’s Peak Elementary School, Laguna Middle School and Pacheco Elementary School by being an advocate for the Latino Community and underprivileged students.

“She encompassed a person who did everything in her power to help kids,” former colleague at Laguna Middle School Cathy Ahearn said. “It didn’t matter what walk of life they came from.”

Blanco died suddenly at the age of 62, after suffering complications from knee surgery in June.

A vigil was put outside of Laguna Middle School after the community heard the news of Blanco’s death. About 150 people attended a vigil to honor Blanco’s life.
