Vegetation fire breaks out in Templeton, slows traffic on Highway 101

(UPDATE) – 4:15 p.m.– Templeton Fire says forward progress of the fire has been stopped. Crews are still on scene mopping up.

Air attack was canceled. When units arrived on scene, firefighters say the fire was burning on both sides of the highway.

A little more than one acre burned. People in the area are saying smoke is still visible and traffic is slowed in both directions.

Traffic is backed up to the Traffic Way exit in Atascadero.

CHP says the northbound Main Street off-ramp is closed.

(ORIGINAL STORY) 4:02 p.m. — Firefighters are on the scene of a vegetation burning near the Main Street off-ramp on Highway 101 in Templeton.

Air attack and additional resources have been called to the scene.

The Templeton Fire Department, Atascadero Fire Department and CAL FIRE SLO are responding.

Traffic in the northbound and southbound lanes are slowed.

Very few details are known at this time but units on scene.

According to the CHP Incident report page, the fire was reported just after 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
