A 5-year-old suffered second-degree burns after walking on a smoldering fire pit at the Oceano Dunes Sunday afternoon, according to CA States Parks.
The fire pit reportedly had hot coals in it, but it is unclear if the pit was covered with sand.
The child was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Last week, a 3-year-old girl from Los Osos was treated for third-degree burns to her feet caused by an illegal fire pit on the beach at Montana de Oro.
