The Cactus and Succulent Society of America is holding its 2019 Biennial Convention in San Luis Obispo.
The convention features several speakers from around the world. They come to discuss the origins of different cactus and succulent species and how they thrive in certain environments.
The scientists and society members also talk about the future of these plants and how to conserve the species currently alive today.
“We really preach conservation. We don’t take plants from the field but we go there to learn, to photograph them, to measure, to do all of the things scientifically that gives us all the answers or most of the answers,” explained Woody Minnich of the Cactus and Succulent Society of America.
More than 300 people are estimated to be attending this year’s convention.
There is a vendor area where the general public can purchase cactus and succulent plants. The sale will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 at the Veterans Memorial Building, located at 801 Grand Ave.
