A group of teenagers is learning the basics of being a police officer in Santa Maria.
The Teen Police Academy is hosted by the Santa Maria Police Department.
Youth between the ages of 12 and 17 get a tour of police headquarters, the crime scene investigation lab, and the dispatch center, plus learn about basic weapon safety and visit the Allan Hancock College Law Enforcement Academy.
The Teen Police Academy wraps up this week and all of the students will graduate with a certificate and a T-shirt.
