Police: San Luis Obispo man threatened in letters he’d shoot minorities

San Luis Obispo Police arrested a man after they say he recently sent several threatening letters stating he was going to shoot minorities moving into his neighborhood.

In a press release, Richard Orcutt, 62, was arrested Sunday morning at his home along Cavalier Lane.

Orcutt, police say, sent the letters containing threats to property managers and homeowners in the area.

A neighbor called him a “ticking time bomb.”

San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT Team and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail served a search warrant at 6:25 a.m.

During the search, detectives found several handguns, rifles, shotguns, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Orcutt faces three felony charges including hate crimes.

He is being held on a $500,000 bond. The investigation continues and Orcutt could face more charges.
