Pavement project on Hwy 1 causing traffic jam near Cambria

Posted at 12:47 PM, Jun 26, 2019

UPDATE (3 p.m.) – Caltrans District 5 Public Information Officer Jim Shivers says Caltrans is aware of the traffic issue on Highway 1 and is working to modify the project so drivers don’t face such lengthy delays.

He says Caltrans’ traffic manager and construction engineer are working with the contractor on the project to shorten the length of traffic control so motorists aren’t waiting so long.

Shivers adds that construction crews should be moving south away from the town of Cambria by later this week or early next week.

(12:47 p.m.) – A Caltrans project to resurface the pavement on Highway 1 was causing a major traffic backup near Cambria on Wednesday, with some drivers saying they were stuck in traffic for an hour.

The project is taking place between Harmony Valley Rd. and Cambria Pines Rd.

Work on Wednesday was scheduled to wrap up by 4 p.m.

The entire project is expected to be complete this September.

Caltrans says the work schedule includes alternating lane closures overnights Sundays through Fridays from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., as well as construction Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
