The City of Goleta has entered into a one dollar, one-year lease agreement with the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County. The Foodbank will be leasing a portion of the City’s property at 27 South La Patera Lane for food storage.

The city bought the property back in 2018 with the intention of turning it into the Goleta Train Depot; however, while the city waits for the initial phases of that project to begin, the building is still vacant.

“This presents a great opportunity for Goleta to support Foodbank’s mission of providing for our community’s nutrition needs during normal times and normal disasters,” said Mayor Paula Perotte. “The Foodbank is a great local organization and we are fortunate to be able to respond to their short-term need for food storage.”

As of right now, the Foodbank currently leases two spaces from Santa Barbara County for one dollar a year, and the City of Goleta will now be able to provide the Foodbank with 3,700 more square feet of storage to ultimately help out the community.

This lease will not affect the city’s plan for the Goleta Depot Train Project.
