The SpaceX launch of a Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to happen from Vandenberg Air Force Base Wednesday morning, according to the 30th Space Wing Facebook page.
The Falcon 9 will be carrying the RADARSAT Constellation Mission from Space Complex Launch-4. 30th Space Wing vice commander Col. Bob Reeves is commanding the launch.
The launch window is set to open at 7:17 a.m. Wednesday, June 12.
Base officials posted an update about the weather conditions in the area at the expected time of launch. Their report says the visibility will be three to four miles with patchy fog. The temperature is expected to be anywhere from 52 to 57 degrees Fahrenheit.
A public viewing area will be open to the public at the Hawk’s Nest on Azalea Lane, just off of Highway 1. The gates will open at 6 a.m. to visitors.
The 30th Space Wing wants to remind viewers of the launch that alcohol consumption, smoking and making fires or a barbecue are not permitted at the Hawk’s Nest.
Surrounding counties, including Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura, may hear at least one sonic boom during the launch.
Sonic booms are the sounds made as an aircraft or vehicle traveling faster than the speed of sound, according to a press release previously sent out by the base.
RADARSAT is a Canadian remote sensing Earth Observation satellite overseen by the Canadian Space Agency.
