SLO, Santa Barbara nominated in Sunset magazine’s best of the West

San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara both appear on the ticket for a reader’s choice poll in Sunset magazine.

The best of the West contestants were compiled from hundreds of nominations across dozens of categories, from best yoga studio to best dive bar.

SLO is nominated for the distinction of best bike town and best farmer’s market.

Santa Barbara’s McConnell’s ice cream is nominated for best ice cream shop in the U.S.

In the bike friendly category, SLO is up against Aspen, CO and Portland, OR.

The contest for best farmer’s market is a crowded field. SLO is contending against Eugene, OR, Scottsdale, AZ, Whitefish, MT, Santa Fe, NM, and Spokane, WA.

McConnell’s in Santa Barbara is running against Seattle, WA, Denver, CO, and the multiple locations where Salt & Straw is served.

J. Woeste in Los Olivos is nominated for best garden store or nursery.

Bixby Bridge in Big Sur is up for best bridge.

Voting is now openand the results will be posted in the magazine’s September 2019 issue and online.

The magazine, which is based in Oakland, had a circulation of 1.2 million subscribers in 2014.
