A Santa Maria man is lucky to be alive after slamming his pickup into the back of a parked Caltrans vehicle on Saturday.
According to CHP, the crash happened shortly after 10 a.m. northbound on San Luis Bay Drive.
The driver veered off the road on to the shoulder, striking the parked Caltrans vehicle.
No one was in the Caltrans vehicle at the time of the crash. Meanwhile the driver suffered a laceration to the nose.
It is unclear why the driver left the roadway, but in the report, CHP said, there was no indication of intoxication.
