Purses, backpacks, diaper bags and even camera cases are among items that won’t be allowed inside Alex G. Spanos Stadium during graduation ceremonies at Cal Poly next month.
The new clear bag policy is designed to enhance security and make things more efficient for the thousands set to enter the stadium gates June 15 and 16.
Everyone is allowed one clear bag, gallon storage bag or small clutch. Cal Poly says clear bags will be distributed to guests and grads on campus throughout the weekend.
The policy, implemented for the first time this year, is part of the University Police Department’s ongoing efforts “to refine and improve its policies and procedures for safety and security at campus events,” according to Cal Poly, and allows “security and police to easily see what is brought in to the event, speeding up security lines and searches.”
Prohibited items include:
- Backpacks
- Tote bags
- Purses
- Diaper bags
- Mesh bags
- Camera bags
- Fanny packs
- Binocular cases
- Printed pattern plastic bags
Small clutches that are 4.5’’x8.5’’ in size or smaller are allowed, along with clear bags that are 12’’x6’’x12’’ or smaller or one-gallon storage bags that are 12’’x12’’ or smaller.
Stadium gates will open two hours in advance of each ceremony. Tickets are required.
