An ice cream flavor has been named after Shell Beach Road’s curvy lines and free scoops are being handed out

Free ice cream will be handed out Thursday in the Shell Beach area as a “thank you” to residents and businesses in the community for their support during the Shell Beach Streetscape construction project.

The project, which encompasses an 18-block section of Shell Beach Road, left some drivers confused earlier this year when new curved striping arrived.

The curves are meant to preserve parking during construction of the project and allow a safe work space for crews. They are expected to be in place through the fall.

Scoops of “Swervy Shell Swirl,” a custom flavor created with the help of Doc Burnstein’s Ice Cream Lab, will be served Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m. at Dinosaur Caves Park and Shell Beach Elementary School.

The City of Pismo Beach says it appreciates the community and local business support during the project and wants to show its appreciation.

Once complete, the reconstructed roadway will include an 8-foot wide multi-use path for bicycles and pedestrians along with other improvements including utility upgrades.
