Students at Los Osos Middle School are raising money for a charity called Water for South Sudan.
The students were inspired to give back after reading a book that described the importance of clean water and how its availability is limited in many countries worldwide.
The students’ efforts have helped one community build a well in South Sudan.
Residents in the area are drilling the well in honor of the school’s contribution.
“It felt so good to see that the fundraising of our students had actually gone. They were really raising it because they wanted to meet Salva, the main character of the book, and then to see this concrete evidence of their work and how it could actually go to helping people directly was really powerful,” said Caroline Gedersen, a teacher at Los Osos Middle School.
Water for South Sudan is a non-profit that raises money to provide clean, safe water in areas of great need.
