California State Parks rangers responded to a single ATV accident at the Oceano Dunes State Vehicle and Recreation Area shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday.

Rangers arrived on scene to find a man believed to be in his 20’s at the base of a 50-foot dune.

The man was “alert, disoriented and combative, indicating signs of head trauma,” according to Commander Kevin Pearce.

He was airlifted to Marian Regional Medical Center for further treatment of his injuries. The man is from the SoCal Fullerton area.

Park rangers say no one witnessed the accident and the rider was unable to give details of what happened.

There have been multiple ATV accidents at the Oceano Dunes in the last two months including two deaths in April.

State Parks is advocating for people to do their research on the rules and knowing their skill level before heading out to the dunes.
