A Santa Maria man was arrested in connection with a home burglary in Pismo Beach.

Police say Joseph Kling, 42, was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property.

The burglary reportedly happened at about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say a side door on the garage was kicked in and money, a cell phone and other items were taken.

Kling was arrested Thursday morning in Santa Maria after he was identified as the suspect.

Police say officers contacted him in the area of the burglary Wednesday morning because they considered him to be suspicious, but because they hadn’t received a report yet about the burglary, they let him go.

When he was taken into custody in Santa Maria, police say he was found to be in possession of most of the stolen property.

Police say they are not releasing a booking photo of Kling at this time because their investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is urged to call the Pismo Beach Police Department’s Detectives Bureau at (805) 773-2208.
