The Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo de Tolosa will dedicate a grove of oak trees at the Johnson Ranch Trail to longtime Rotary member and SLO County resident, Barry Karleskint.
Rotary members say the grove is a living tribute to Barry Karleskint, who died last year. There are 86 trees planted, one representing each member, including Karleskint and his widow, Brenda.
A dedication ceremony will take place May 23, at 5:30 p.m. Karleskint was a member of Rotary de Tolosa for 30 years, he was club president in 1993 and served on the board of directors every year since then.
“Barry dedicated most of his life giving back to the San Luis Obispo community,” said Rotary de Tolosa President Paige Chamberlain. “He exemplified the Rotary motto of ‘Service Above Self’ and was our go-to parliamentarian, the person who always knew the answer to any procedural question.”
The trees were planted last Arbor Day by club members at the Johnson Ranch Trail, located at the intersection of Ontario Road and South Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo.
