Grover Beach police say a suspect was arrested for committing a robbery at Diamond Adult World, an adult entertainment store.

At 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the store at 984 W. Grand Ave. for a theft in progress.

Police say the suspect, 30-year-old Joseph Frank Hyde of San Miguel, escalated the theft to a robbery when he used force to get away from the store clerk and attempted to run them over with a motorcycle.

Officers caught up with Hyde and were able to identify him after a witness recognized his motorcycle, but were unable to detain him as he fled down Highway 101, according to police. A public alert was broadcast to local agencies for Hyde.

At 11:30 p.m., Atascadero police reportedly located Hyde and were able to detain him without incident. Hyde was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest and various drug charges.

Hyde’s bail is currently set at $60,000.
