Hundreds of high school students receive awards from Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara

The Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara, in partnership with the Santa Barbara Foundation, presented its 2019 awards for northern Santa Barbara County students on Tuesday.

The event was held at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria.

This year, the Scholarship Foundation will award more than 2,400 college and vocational scholarships totaling nearly $8 million to students throughout the county. The average scholarship is about $2,800.

In Santa Maria on Tuesday, the foundation awarded scholarships to 537 high school seniors.

“This scholarship is probably my biggest scholarship as well so that’s probably gonna cover basically my housing,” said scholarship recipient Erika Garcia.

“This is gonna be a big help because it’s gonna assist me very much so within… first off, my tuition and also the living costs,” said scholarship recipient Jose Ramos.

The Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara has awarded more than $115 million to more than 50,000 Santa Barbara County students since it was founded in 1962.

The foundation also offers free financial aid advising services.
