Some sixth graders in Lompoc are learning about personal finance and preparing for the future.

The Pockets Change program teaches kids about a number of economic topics, including banking basics, saving strategies, spending money wisely, and how to make your own business sales pitch.

They’re visiting La Honda and La Canada elementary schools this week.

While it may be a bit ahead of their time, the program hopes the students learn the value of the money they earn as a supplement to their education.

“One of the really important things about money, whether it’s making it, whether it’s earning it, whether it’s saving it, it’s understanding what is important to you and making sure we set up our lives so that we can afford it,” said Brian ‘Dyalekt’ Kushner, a Pockets Change speaker.

Pockets Change also teaches students about the fundamentals of applying to jobs, including giving them tips on creating their own personal resume and writing the ideal cover letter to earn the job of their dreams.
