About 100 volunteers for the non-profit dedicated their efforts to paint a colorful mural on the walls and pavement of Battles Elementary School.

The school is the 11th in the last 10 years to be chosen for the project.

“The gratitude and the faces that we can see on the kids today and the staff — I mean the joy that it’s already brought is so exciting,” said Molly Johnston, assistant principal at Battles Elementary.

The project also entails library beautification, landscape renewal with a fresh garden, design-engineered fence art and fun games.

Give & Grow Santa Maria’s mission is to create, educate and donate resources, including scholarships and books, for disadvantaged schools.
