A sanitation truck driver reportedly suffered minor injuries Wednesday afternoon in a crash on Highway 154.

It happened at about 1:45 p.m. just west of San Antonio Creek Rd., north of Santa Barbara.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the truck, which was empty, somehow ended up on its side, blocking the westbound lane.

Fire officials say the driver was able to get out after a passerby broke the windshield with a hammer.

The driver, a 66-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

The westbound lane of traffic was expected to be closed for about an hour while crews worked to remove the wrecked truck.
