The medical community today celebrated the life of Chris Meadows at Pavilion on the Lake in Atascadero.

Meadows was an EMT who died ten years ago in the line of duty while responding to a call at the Oceano Dunes.

Attendees got a chance to honor the life of Meadows as well as celebrate aspiring first responders who were awarded scholarships.

The money raised at the event goes to paramedic, EMT and advanced EMS scholarships for local students.

“It’s just humbling the number of people that have come out,” said Tim Meadows, Christopher’s father. “We were expecting 300 people this year when we normally get 200 and the generosity of the community is just outstanding.”

The event has awarded 51 scholarships in ten years which is over $110,000 for local students.

“It just gives me goosebumps just thinking about how many people have put out for so many years in our son’s memory,” said Meadows.
