San Luis Obispo County will keep the Clerk-Recorder’s office in Atascadero open for now, but the hours will be reduced.

County Clerk-Recorder Tommy Gong says keeping the office open five days a week is “unsustainable” so it will be closed three days a week.

The office provides services like marriage licenses, birth and death certificates, business records, and more.

The county was reportedly considering closing the Atascadero office as the jobs of two Clerk-Recorder employees are being transferred to another department.

The Clerk-Recorder’s North County Office, which is located on the second floor of the Atascadero Library, will now be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Gong says based on how busy the North County office is, he’ll make adjustments to the schedule if necessary.

During an election, Gong says the office will be open five days a week in the weeks before Election Day.
