The Carry The Load National Relay is making its way through the Central Coast.
Carry The Load is a non-profit organization that aims to honor members of the military, veterans and first responders. It was founded in 2011 by two veteran U.S. Navy SEALs with the mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day.
The West Coast route of the National Relay started in Seattle on April 25. Relay teams are walking and cycling down the coast, handing off the American flag every five miles.
Monday’s segment of the relay began at Santa Maria Fire Station 3 and will end in Ventura. The next segment will pick up in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The relay will end in Texas on Sunday, May 26.
There are also Midwest and East Coast routes.
Since 2011, Carry The Load has reportedly raised $21.7 million for its awareness, continuum of care, and education programs. Visit the Carry The Load website to learn more.
