Volunteers scoured the streets of Santa Maria to beautify parts of the city on Saturday.
The effort was a part of “Serve Santa Maria” — a semi-annual event organized by Bethel Lutheran Church.
Several volunteers helped out with a project at Temple Beth El as a gesture of kindness in light of the recent shootings at a San Diego synagogue.
The event has been serving the community since 2010.
“I have a little piece of, just memories as a kid coming over here to Temple Beth El for services,” volunteer Duane Gardner said. “It was my first introduction to the community and it has a little piece of history and I thought, yeah, it’s time to give.”
Other projects included repairing the shade structure at the Lawn Bowling Club and painting the U.S. flag in front of Tommy Kunst Middle School.
