Republican Michael Erin Woody took the first step this week toward running for the 24th Congressional District seat in the 2020 election.

In 2018, Woody lost the primary election to Justin Fareed (R) and current Rep. Salud Carbajal (D).

On Monday, Woody reportedly filed papers with the Federal Election Commission to begin the exploratory process. He’s expected to make an official announcement about his decision to run this summer.

Woody is a civil engineer and owns Struct One Engineering and Construction in San Luis Obispo. He previously served on the Fresno City Council. Woody currently makes his home in Morro Bay.

The 24th Congressional District includes all of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties and a portion of Ventura County.
