Smoke will be visible in the Cambria area this week due to pile burning, which is now underway.
CAL FIRE SLO announced last week plans to burn several dozen piles of invasive French broom in an effort to “Sweep the Broom out of Cambria.”
The burns Monday and Tuesday will take place on the southwest side of Highway 1 at Santa Rosa Creek and Fern Canyon.
Monday they were being conducted northwest of Burton Drive.
The effort is a collaboration between the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District, Caltrans, firefighters from Cambria CSD Fire and Cal Fire.
The burns will only take place if weather conditions allow.
