Rancho Bowl in Santa Maria is asking community members to submit their original artwork for a mural contest.

The bowling alley’s owners say the goal of the mural is to celebrate Rancho Bowl’s 60th anniversary, and applicants are encouraged to create artwork that represents Santa Maria’s history.

“We’ve seen other cities that have murals on buildings so we thought it would be really cool,” said owner Ashlee Carranza. “There’s not really any in Santa Maria and we do have this blank wall. We thought it would be really cool.”

The contest is open now through June 1, 2019. The winning artwork will be selected by public vote during Rancho Bowl’s 60th Anniversary Celebration, which is scheduled for this June 13-16. The winner will be announced on June 20 and will receive a $500 gift card to Rancho Bowl.

Rancho Bowl has been owned and operated by the same family since 1959. It’s located at 128 E. Donovan Rd. in Santa Maria.
