A dog in Lompoc had a close call with a dangerous reptile over the weekend.
After escaping from his yard late last week, the pit bull mix named “Chulo” was spotted about a mile away by a Good Samaritan who took the injured dog to a Santa Barbara County Animal Services shelter.
Chulo’s face and neck were extremely swollen. There were also marks on the right side of his face showing evidence of a rattlesnake bite.
After plenty of rest and relaxation, he made a full recovery. On Tuesday, he was reunited with his owner.
“I feel happy that he is okay and I’m glad to see him because I haven’t really spent much time with him, but hoping we are still able to spend time together,” says Gerardo Navarro, Chulo’s owner.
Navarro says he’s only had Chulo for a couple of months. He apparently didn’t immediately recognize pictures of the dog because of his swollen face.
Animal Services says Chulo was microchipped before being returned to Navarro.
