California State Parks officials have identified the woman killed in a crash Friday night at the Oceano Dunes as Narcissa Lichtman, 44, of San Jose.
Chief Ranger Kevin Pearce says a group of people were following each other in five vehicles when, at about 7:30 p.m. at the Vent Pipe area, the ROV Lichtman was in went off a 25- to 30-foot dune at speeds estimated at about 60 miles per hour.
Four of the five vehicles crashed but not into each other, according to Pearce.
CPR was performed by State Parks rangers for approximately 40 minutes. Once other emergency crews arrived on scene, Pearce says Lichtman was taken by ambulance to the hospital where she later died.
At least four other people were injured.
Pearce says alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash.
