Oxnard woman killed in head-on crash in Carpinteria

One person was killed in a head-on crash in Carpinteria Saturday morning.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says it happened at about 6:36 a.m. on Carpinteria Avenue at Bailard Avenue and involved a utility van and car.

Sheriff’s officials say it appears the van crossed over the double yellow lines, crashing head-on into the car, which had four people inside.

The van’s passenger, an Oxnard woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 41-year-old driver of the van and the four people inside the car were all taken to the hospital but are expected to survive, officials said.

The name of the woman who died will be released once next-of-kin is notified.

No one involved was from Carpinteria, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Major Accident Response Team is handling the investigating.
