The family of a Morro Bay pastor killed after being hit by a pickup truck last year in Los Osos honored his life with a special reception this weekend.

Dale Paulsen spent 24 years pastoring the congregation at Morro Bay Presbyterian Church.

The 67-year-old announced his retirement to the congregation the morning of Nov. 18,  just hours before his death.

Sunday’s ceremony was held to celebrate the new lights and electrical parts for the gym at First Presbyterian Church in San Luis Obispo where Paulsen’s family says he played basketball twice a week.

Donations received after his death helped fund the gym improvements.

“I think it kind of represents him well, being able to hang out with different people and also play and being able to you know, show you care,”said Andrew Paulsen, Dale’s son.

Family and friends say his light will continue to shine on those who play the sport he loved.

Emily Bales has pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter, DUI and other charges in connection with Paulsen’s death.
