UPDATE (1:05 p.m.) – The California Highway Patrol has identified the woman who died after crashing into a construction area in Los Osos on Thursday as Catherine Zwart Hein, 67, of Los Osos.
Officers say Hein was traveling at about 50 mph when, for an unknown reason, she went off the road and struck the front of an unoccupied utility truck that was parked on the dirt shoulder.
No construction workers in the area were injured.
CHP says Hein was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The collision remains under investigation.
(11:29 a.m.) – At least one person is dead after a crash Thursday morning involving a construction vehicle in Los Osos.
It happened shortly before 9 a.m. at South Bay Boulevard and Nipomo Avenue where, according to the California Highway Patrol, a black Volkswagon hit a parked construction truck.
The driver of the Volkswagon was taken to the hospital where she died, according to CHP. Her name has not yet been released.
The scene was clear by 11:15 a.m.
The area is the same place where work to install a new traffic signal is underway, but it was not immediately known if the construction truck involved was associated with the work being done at the intersection.
No other information has been released.
